For many homeowners in our area, anything that goes wrong with a plumbing system is considered an emergency. We rely on these systems so much and so often that even just a minor hiccup can cause some serious delays in our lifestyles. But classifying every toilet clog or slow drain as an emergency might start to cause problems when you encounter something that truly is a serious emergency. That’s especially true when you’re preparing to call for 24-hour plumbers in St. Petersburg.
Don’t get us wrong, a drain clog on Thanksgiving when you’re making dinner for the whole family is definitely an emergency. But we’d argue that there’s a big difference between that and a drain clog that’s been years in the making, fully clogging up on a Tuesday after work.
So how can you be better prepared for plumbing emergencies? How do you know that an emergency is serious and not something that can wait a few hours or a day? Let’s talk about it.
The Questions and Answers of Plumbing Emergencies
We know that many of our customers have questions about plumbing emergencies. So we put together all of the most frequent questions we get on this list so you can better get a handle on what’s an emergency and what’s not.
Is a gushing leak always an emergency?
Yes! A leak that’s so large it’s “gushing” is probably going to do some serious damage to your home and your budget if it isn’t cleaned up and stopped quickly. Shut off your home’s access to water and call our team immediately. You need to have access to water without risking severe water damage.
When is a clog an emergency?
Clogs are usually not emergencies because they are slow to form and can become just inconveniences as opposed to a full-on risk. For instance, if your drain is beginning to clog, but hasn’t fully gotten blocked up yet, then you might want to schedule service in advance. This is what stops these from being emergencies.
However, if you’ve got multiple drain clogs to the point where you think you’ve got a sewer clog or even a sewer backup, then you’ll want to call our emergency line ASAP. This can be a hygiene concern and a sign of a very serious clog that needs to be alleviated.
When does a problem require emergency support?
Any time your plumbing problem gets worse or starts leaking water and causing you extreme discomfort, that’s when you need to call our emergency hotline. You can always shut off your home’s access to water, but that’s only a very temporary solution. You’re going to need help quickly even if the leak isn’t occurring at this moment.
Gauge your home comfort, your schedule, and the severity of the problem. Do you need multiple towels to clean the mess up? Are you nervous about an electrical component right next to this leak? Then the faster we can be there to help, the better.
Emergencies come in different shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common–your home is at risk and you need the support of a master plumber. In these cases, you can always count on us.
