If you’re here, then you’re probably dealing with an immensely stressful situation. We want to start off by saying don’t panic. No matter what’s going on in your home, it’s going to be okay. Plumbing issues, even emergency ones, can always be straightened out effectively by a licensed plumber, even in unique situations. As long as you’re staying vigilant and requesting professional help when needed, you’ll be fine.
However, there are some things you can do right now to alleviate damage and allow for your home’s plumbing system to be fixed quickly. The easier you make our job when you call for an emergency plumber in Tampa, the faster the problem will be resolved.
So, just follow our five-step guide and you’ll be in good shape. Just remember–it’s going to be okay!
Step 1: Evaluate the Damage
First, start by looking at the site of your damaged pipe or plumbing fixture. This might include evaluating where the problem starts, where it goes, and where the water is coming from. In the case of a leak, just knowing that it’s dripping or gushing out is usually enough to warrant moving on to step two.
For other problems like clogs or backed-up drains, you’ll want to still evaluate the damage but keep in mind that there’s a difference between emergency plumbing issues and standard plumbing repairs. If it seems like a problem that can wait without causing problems for the safety, hygiene, or comfort of your home, then we’d recommend thinking of it as a regular plumbing fix. Otherwise, move on to step 2.
Step 2: Call for Help
Next, you’ll want to call our hotline and let us know about the problem. Since this is after step one, you’ll already be quite familiar with the issue and can give us a bit of background information. The more detailed you are about the issue, the more likely we’ll be able to quickly diagnose the problem and fix it so you can get back to your life.
Of course, we won’t be able to be there immediately. It’ll take time for us to get in our trucks and address the problem. But in that time, please continue to follow the other steps and you’ll be able to mitigate the worst of any potential disasters.
Step 3: Turn the Water Off
If you’re dealing with a leak, then you’ll want to address one of the most serious problems–leaking or stagnant water. Any leak will continue to leak until it gets fixed unless you shut off the access to water. This can be done at your home’s water shut-off valve. By removing the plumbing system’s access to water, you can stop this problem from getting any worse.
Step 4: Examine Additional Leaks or Drips
Now that you don’t have to worry about the current leak, try to evaluate how bad the water damage is. Do you have water leaking from multiple stories of your house? Is it leaking through the floor to the basement? These are all things to consider for cleanup.
Step 5: Clean Up and Create Access
Get some towels, put on some gloves, and let’s get to work! Cleaning up the area and providing easy access for a master plumber is your number one priority while you wait for our team to arrive.
